the lift

This is a script I wrote for an application to a film school. Enjoy!

Int. building. Night.

Leo walks into a building in a hurry. He wears a trench coat. He looks at his watch. He paces forward in speed but does not break into a run.

He presses the call button for the lift. Another man stands waiting next to the lift already. He is talking on the phone.

THE MAN

Happy New Year’s Eve! I will be there, I just have something to do. Yes, yes. It will not take long.

Leo looks at the man and nods. He pulls a photo out of his pocket. It is a photo of the man that stands next to him. Leo nods once again. He pulls out his phone and writes something in it.

The lift door opens. The two enter.

THE MAN

What are you doing here young man? It is New Year’s Eve, you should be out there celebrating.

LEO

I am not as young as I look.

THE MAN

Neither am I.

The man smiles looking at Leo.

Leo pushes the stop button, grapples the man by his neck and pins him to the wall.

LEO

You are Jordan, aren’t you?

JORDAN

I am.

Jordan seems to be unscathed by Leo’s attack.

LEO

Why are you trying to reveal us to the humans?

JORDAN

I have my reasons

 

LEO

No reason is good enough to warrant the war that will happen due to this stupidity of yours.

JORDAN

There will be no war.

LEO

What makes you think that?

JORDAN

They stand no chance against us.

LEO

They are the same species that were able to tame some monsters and make the other’s extinct.

JORDAN

Don’t call animals monsters please, they lack intellect. We have the same intellect as them.

LEO

So you want them dead? Then who will run this world?

JORDAN

I don’t want them dead, more like I want them tamed, afraid of us.

Leo punches Jordan in the face Repeatedly. Jordan is unaffected.

JORDAN

You punch like a Homo Sapien.

Jordan pushes Leo away as he crashes onto the door of the lift. Leo is unable to breathe as falls down to the floor.

JORDAN

If you are truly one of us, then prove it.

Leo pulls a gun out of his back pocket and shoots Jordan in the head. Jordan fall down to the ground limp. Leo pulls himself up as he stands still heaving.

LEO

That teaches you monster.

He spits on Jordan’s face. Jordan’s head spews out the bullet that was embedded in his head. The hole on his head starts closing up until there is not as much as a mark on his head. Jordan pushes himself off the ground onto his feet.

JORDAN

So you aren’t one of us.

LEO

This wasn’t… you aren’t….

JORDAN

Nobody told you about it, did they? We are immortal to a certain extent. We can’t die due to age or sickness or bullets. We only have one weakness, which I can tell you only because you are about to die. It happens to be fire, we only die if every last cell of ours is burnt to the crisp.

LEO

You aren’t… you aren’t a mutant?

JORDAN

A what?

LEO

That means, you are the wrong guy.

Leo pulls out his phone, keeps his gun back in and sends a message to someone.

LEO

What are you, though?

JORDAN

An immortal. What did you think me to be?

LEO

Jordan Ice?

JORDAN

No, Jordan Rochester

LEO

Oh my mutant god, what are the odds? I met someone of the same name and the same face as Jordan Ice but he happened to belong to another species entirely?

Leo types on his furiously. Jordan looks on with his mouth gaping.

JORDAN

Come again?

LEO

Of course! Jordan Ice would not have a British accent. I was so confused.

JORDAN

You are not making any sense.

LEO

Well I am a mutant and I am looking for another mutant who wants the humans to know of our existence. Anyway, an immortal, huh? I thought you were a myth. Nice to actually meet one, hi I am Leonardo Blaze.

Leo extends his hand towards Jordan.

JORDAN

I need to kill you, you know too much.

LEO

Took the words out of my mouth. You see, for us mutants, our second name signify our ability. I was sent after Jordan Ice because his power is that of ice and I am the only one who can tackle that.

Leo presses the stop button again and the lift starts to operate again. Jordan gets ready to pounce onto Leo.

Cut to Int. Lift lobby. Night.

The lift door opens and Leo leaves the lift as he adjusts his trench coat.

A girl runs up to him and hugs him
